Beautiful Antique Macah Beargrass and Cedar Bark Basket with Birds and Sun balletic Quite a cast of charactersI have a particular love for Macah baskets of the Pacific Northwest Coast finely woven of bear grass and cedar bark, they are some of the finest baskets in the world, especially the antique ones, like this one, which I believe dates to the first decade or so of the 20th century. The Macah developed a cottage industry of selling baskets to tourists as early as the 1860s, highly valued now. Pretty uncommon to find one with an eagle on two opposite sides
